The fall off-season is in full swing for the IndyCar Series as teams begin making moves off and on the track. Team Penske confirmed recently that 26 year-old Ryan Briscoe will replace Sam Hornish Jr. in the No. 6 Team Penske IndyCar. Briscoe joins teammate, and two-time Indianapolis 500 winner, Helio Castroneves on Penske’s two-car IndyCar Series team that will race in the Camping World Grand Prix at The Glen July 4-6, 2008.
Briscoe will have big shoes to fill in that of Sam Hornish Jr. who recently signed with Penske’s NASCAR Sprint Cup program to drive the No. 77 Dodge next year. Joining the most successful IndyCar racing team in history with 134 victories, the young road-racing specialist feels he is up to the challenge. Driving the No. 12 car for Luczo Dragon Racing in this past year’s 92nd running of the Indianapolis 500, Briscoe finished an impressive fifth. Briscoe’s road course racing resume includes his first career pole at Infineon Raceway in 2005 and his career-best third-place finish at The Glen in 2006. Briscoe added to his success at The Glen in a DP car with the Grand Am Rolex Sports Car Series placing third in the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen and placing second in the Crown Royal 200 for SunTrust Racing in 2006.
You can look for “Dancing with The Stars” and IndyCar star Helio Castroneves and Penske’s new addition Ryan Briscoe when The Camping World Grand Prix at The Glen IndyCar Series weekend returns to the legendary 3.4-mile road course, just in time to celebrate the 4th of July holiday, July 4-6. The Indy Pro Series, Historic Grand Prix and Grand-Am KONI Challenge Series will also take on the historic 3.4-mile long course during the weekend. The Soul of American Road Racing will once again offer a variety of 4th of July-themed fan activities at the track including a large fireworks display to celebrate Independence Day.
